Path of Exile Item Upgrading
In Path of Exile, item upgrading is among the most effective ways to upgrade your gear without relying on big-ticket drops or trade. This article will show you how to upgrade your items.
Upgrading equipment grants a bonus to the item's base stats. The bonus increases with upgrade component's level and rarity.
Components
Upgrade components can make your weapons and armour better. You can locate them through destroying enemies, buying them from karma sellers or finding them in items-spheres. They can also be rescued from equipment with them, or through an advanced salvage kit such as the Black Lion Salvage Kit or Ascended Salvage Tool. Upgrade components cannot be destroyed when they are removed from the item.
The main function of upgrade components is to allow an item to be upgraded, but they also serve other purposes. They can be stacked to boost the value of an upgradeable item or they can be used to increase the experience gained by upgrading an existing weapon or piece of gear. They can be forged to give additional benefits. For instance, a specially crafted glyph will boost the upgrade chance of its target, whereas an upgrade boost will boost the defense or attack quality of a weapon or armor.
You can connect an upgrade template to an item by selecting it from the edition GUI. This will show the upgrade components to which the item can be updated. You can also use the workbench when selecting an upgrade template. In either instance, the item will be upgraded once enough upgrade components have been collected.
Each component is assigned an experience multiplier. This determines how much experience an item gains when upgraded with that component. Organic components, for instance have an increased multiplier of experience than mechanical components. It is therefore recommended to upgrade using organic components until you reach the multiplier of experience for the next rank of the weapon or gear, and then switch to mechanical upgrades.
Each item has an upgrade limit number that is available for. The number of upgradeable items is determined by their upgradeable rank and the kind of upgrade they can get. The most powerful upgrade is a weapon that is tier 10. The most commonly used upgrade is a tier 6 gun and an armor upgrade of tier 5.
Sets
A set is a group of items which share bonuses. Each item in the set can be upgraded at least once and the upgrade will increase the guaranteed bonuses. When you first upgrade an item, its initial stat will be +1. On subsequent upgrades, the primary stats will be boosted even further (for instance +1 for 12+/13+/14+) and each time an item is upgraded one of its additional stats increases randomly.
Upgrades can also boost the base damage of a weapon. This may be important for certain types of builds. Weapons aren't upgraded to give an increased maximum defence roll than their base. Upgrades can be a great option to increase the value of a set and unique items, but it's important to note that they might not be superior to a high-level runeword in any build.
If you are upgrading an item that comes with a bonus it can be rerolled one time, and its guarantee will reset to zero. Rerolling costs the same amount of power dice as leveling an item, but the new item will have various bonuses. Upgrades can be completed through the NPC [Armorthe ] Boboko in Central Flarine. To upgrade an item you will need the appropriate amount Minerals and Erons as well as a power dice of each kind. These are available at the crafting table or the Ultra Collector and can be purchased with Gold. The NPC will also offer an additional reward for every tier that is completed of the upgrade process. This reward can be rerolled one time, using the same materials and components as the first item.
Rerolling
If the player has enough rerolling tokens, they can reroll any item that they've acquired during the game. When an upgraded item is being rerolled, it can be exchanged for an equivalent version at a level 1 of the same item in a different set. Reroll tokens can be purchased at the store for an amount of in-game currency. However, they cannot be refunded. The new item will come with the same extra bonuses like the first, however the stats will differ.
Players can change the identity of equipment in addition to rerolling it by interacting with a NPC upgrader. This will change the identification from an armored weapon to a weapon, or vice versa, while keeping its basic stats and required attributes. The change is permanent and will affect all characters that have the gear in question.
The player can also upgrade the item level for any equipped equipment. This is done by engaging with an upgrader NPC, and then obtaining upgrade items. The cost will differ based on the upgrade track, item type and number of crests. For weapons, each step will add an additional 5% to its damage.
The upgrade of an item can boost its power, but it will also decrease its quality. Therefore, it is important to strike a balance between the two. Certain items might not be worth upgrading and some will require to be upgraded to reach their potential. A player may want to upgrade breakpoint armor with an interesting modification ( percent block chance, or FHR) in order to explore what else it can be.
Rerolling is a standard practice in Genshin Impact and other gacha-based games. People use it in order to get a character or weapon they cannot otherwise get. Getting these items can be expensive and time-consuming and the RNG gods don't always want to play ball. The only options left is to shell out real money or grind a lot. Rerolling is a very popular choice in Genshin Impact.
Leveling
When upgrading an item you can increase the level of the weapon or armor. This feature isn't available in the current version of the game. I believe it was designed to be a way to add value to rare items, but as gear in general drops fairly quickly and is only upgraded once you've reached a certain level, you'll usually replace the item before it gets too old. It is also not worth upgrading items with gem sockets because the power of the stone will outweigh any increment in the ilvl.
You will see a small box when you click on the upgrade option for an item. It will show the template for the item, its crest, and the cost for Valorstone to raise the item level. Armor and weapons have different prices, with the latter typically being more costly. The upgrade template lists the stats to be added to an upgraded item, and also the current ilvl.
The crest and Valorstone costs are calculated based on the item's current ilvl as well as the upgrade template. The ilvl is also reduced by the upgrade templates lvl reduction percentage. For instance, a weapon with an increase of 8% will decrease its ilvl by 8 - 8%.

The item will get upgrades to other stats like critical strike damage, PvE damages, and block, parry, and dodge rating in addition to the base ilvl. These increases are also based off the upgrade template.
The amount of damage and defense that the item receives when it is leveled can be seen below the cost and upgrade decrease percentages in the upgrade template window. Aside from equipment for practice, all items and armor get the same stats once leveled up. The market will determine the value of these stats. A weapon or armor that has perfect rolls can fetch an incredibly higher price than a non-upp’d version. This is also true for other pieces of armor like tiaras or circlets.
